VA Chief of Staff Visit
The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) welcomed Mr. Robert Snyder the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Chief of Staff, June 15. Snyder had an opportunity to tour the facility, meet OBVAMC community partners, to include Congressional, State and City Representatives, and military leadership. He also addressed staff members at one of the largest Employee Town Halls held in the last few years.
Snyder, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, also visited with patients and presented Vietnam War Veteran pins, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, to Vietnam Veterans.
Snyder received in-depth briefs regarding hospital operations, challenges and future initiatives.
Additionally, the Chief of Staff met with Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker, the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland and LDVA Under Secretary Homer Rogers were also among guest engaged in open discussion regarding VA health care.
The following Congressional offices were also represented: U.S. Senators David Vitter (LA), Bill Cassidy (LA), Ted Cruz (TX) and John Boozman (AR). U.S. Congressmen John Fleming (LA) and Ralph Abraham (LA) were also represented and Louisiana State Representative Barbara Norton also joined the visit, along with Caddo Parish Commissioner Ken Epperson.
The ARK-LA-TEX Community Veterans Engagement Board, comprised of Veteran Service Organizations, Officers and Representatives, from Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas, also had an opportunity to meet with the VA Chief of Staff.
As the Chief of Staff, Snyder works closely with the Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Under Secretaries in managing day-to-day operations of the federal government’s second largest Cabinet department, with over 340,000 employees in VA medical centers, clinics, benefits offices and national cemeteries throughout the country.Snyder received in-depth briefs regarding hospital operations, challenges and future initiatives.
